(CLICK ON ANY IMAGE TO VIEW CLOSELY) Making art is about story telling. Over time, I have fallen in love with mixed media painting and its ability to vividly express feelings, places and stories.
The people that I love, my experiences, and my Mexican culture have informed my whimsical imagery. Color, texture, and line are the most important qualities of my work.
Making art is an essential part of my survival in a world that is full of change. It is also part of showing people that I care. It creates balance and order in my life.
As my life progresses, events and new relationships will continue to unfold and I wish to always have paint and paper handy to tell the “real story”.
I was born and raised in Mexico City. At the age of seventeen I moved to Boston to attend the Massachusetts College of Art. After receiving a BFA with honors in Fiber Art, I continued on to get my Masters of Science in Art Education.
I began teaching at the middle school level in Southern California, where I developed challenging Visual Arts and Publications programs for students. After 8 really great years I decided to follow my dreams of teaching oversees. I am know on my exciting journey of teaching at a international school in Malaysia.
Creating my artwork will always have a priority in my life. In my free time, I create my own work and commissions for clients. I would like to illustrate children's books one day. I could not imagine my life without the chance to express myself and make others happy through my work.
About my Paintings
My Mixed Media paintings are created on watercolor paper. I use a combination of gouache paint (thick watercolor) and textures such as foil, maps, magazines, and patterned and recycled papers to enhance my imagery.
My Papermaking works are created using a very unique and unrecognizable technique that can only be created in a papermaking studio. It is created in one sitting using pulp (very small paper particles) and painted on a fresh wet sheet of paper using stencils, squirt bottles and brushes.
My color palette is very defined and comes naturally to me. I think it comes from growing up in a very colorful culture. The colors that I gravitate toward also show up in the way I dress and decorate my home.
